Meet Sumana

As a counselor, my approach is rooted in compassion, empathy, and a deep commitment to helping others through their journey of healing and growth. I am deeply committed to creating a warm and supportive environment where clients feel safe to explore their emotions and experiences. My approach centers on understanding each person’s unique story, validating their feelings, and providing the support needed to navigate life’s challenges.

I believe in the power of empathy to foster connection and healing. By truly listening and understanding your perspective, I aim to help you feel seen, heard, and valued. My role as a counselor is not just to guide, but to walk alongside you, offering encouragement and tools that empower you to build the resilience needed to overcome obstacles and thrive.

In our work together, we will focus on helping you uncover your inner strengths and resources, cultivating self-awareness, and developing strategies that promote growth and well-being. Whether you are facing anxiety, relationship issues, cultural identity, seeking personal growth, or exploring your faith, I am here to support you on your journey toward healing and resilience.

My Background

I earned my Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Santa Clara University. I have done my internship at Cupertino Union School District and have had experience working with students and their families. I loved coming alongside children, adults, and families and giving them tools to cultivate healthy interpersonal relationships, enhance self-perception, increase self-awareness, and foster gratitude. Being an immigrant myself, I am especially passionate about supporting my clients in overcoming challenges related to cultural identity, immigration, anxiety, spirituality, and resolving conflicts. I am a trilingual Bay Area resident fluent in English, Hindi, and Telugu, and I have the privilege of working with a wide range of age groups from K to 50+.

The primary therapy modalities I use are Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT), and a Strength-based approach. Both PCT and Strength-based approaches prioritize the client's perspective and promote personal growth, self-awareness, and empowerment in the therapeutic process. CBT helps reframe thought patterns into healthy ones.
