Meet Melissa

As a school counselor, I have primarily been working with youth for the past two years and assisting them with their social-emotional, career, and academic counseling needs. Working with youth has been an important part of my pathway to marriage and family therapy, which will not only provide an extra layer of education and understanding to my students, but prepare me to better understand couples and families, especially how they relate to each other, as well as individuals.

I have a deep desire to focus on my clients, giving them the space and safety to share their challenges in a non-judgmental and supportive environment. I see our time together as your time, and we will focus on topics that are the most important to you, whether that be something from your past that has plagued you or a current issue that has been holding you back.

My Background

I hold a master's degree in counseling with an emphasis in school counseling and a pupil personnel services credential issued through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. I have been a school counselor for the past two school years, and have been working through a second degree in counseling with a marriage and family therapy emphasis through the University of Wisconsin - Superior. Prior to my role in education, I worked in public relations, journalism, and communications, which helped me understand and appreciate the importance of listening more than speaking and giving people the freedom to speak openly and honestly.

Areas of Focus

My areas of focus are diverse, but include couples with communication challenges, conflict, infidelity/betrayal, and parenting or marriage difficulties, as well as LGBTQIA+, church and spiritual abuse, neurodiversity and mood disorders, life and career transitions, and those who have trouble with self-esteem, self-worth, or setting boundaries. I work with individuals of all ages, as well as with couples and families.

Fun Facts About Melissa

I am the wife of a first responder, and have been for nearly 20 years. I also have three boys (toddler to preteen), one of whom is neurodivergent, and when I'm not watching my favorite ice hockey and lacrosse player do what brings him joy, and as time permits, I love watching documentaries, reading non-fiction, binging on my favorite comfort television programs, attending concerts, and walking/running. Additionally, I'm a sucker for a good (vegetarian) recipe, and always on the hunt for the perfect slice of tiramisu.
