Meet Josh
I am honored to be included in your journey of healing and growth. In our work together, you will be met with warmth, curiosity, and steady attention from me. I will always listen closely to your story. We will gently explore your challenges. We will set clear and doable steps for healing that fit your life.
I am person-centered and collaborative. This means that I wholeheartedly believe in the potential you have to recover and grow, and that I will be your faithful partner along the way. I love to draw from methods such as Motivational Interviewing and Life Coaching to help you move from a state of ambivalence and experience small but meaningful wins with each step. My hope is that you leave each session feeling known, encouraged, and a little more free.
My Background
I was born and raised in South Korea and homeschooled by a historian father and a therapist mother, which drew me early to how people build and repair relationships. At sixteen, I moved to the U.S. alone, finished high school in English despite speaking very little at first, and began mentoring other international students along the way. In college, I studied Liberal Arts—history, philosophy, logic, and psychology—and for the past five years, I have coached and mentored teenagers and young adults in both Korea and the U.S., and learned that psychological health is fundamentally holistic. I am now in the final year of my M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy, learning to integrate my coaching experience and person-centered values with different counseling methods.
Areas of Focus
I am passionate about working with teens and young adults, as well as families and couples. I focus on relationship issues within families and between partners, and with the academic and relationship challenges many young people face.
I also welcome international couples and Korean/Korean American clients. I am committed to supporting foreign-exchange and international students with cross-cultural adjustment and developing academic and relationship skills.
I would love to help clients build work satisfaction, productivity, and clear goal-setting. With teenagers and international students, I address relationship issues, motivation challenges, and addictions through a structured and compassionate approach. I also specialize in helping Korean/Korean American individuals and families with communication and cultural/relational stressors.
Fun Facts About Josh
Outside the office, I love camping and backpacking with my family and friends. After work, you will often find me surfing and scouting new waves along the California coastline. I am passionate about cooking and sharing Korean food—it is a joy when family and friends enjoy those flavors and culture together. I also play piano, guitar, bass, and drums, and I enjoy making music with the people I love.
I am both fluent in English and Korean
