Meet Barbara

** Barbara is available for teletherapy sessions only **

Barbara is a compassionate Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who strives to create a safe environment for you to communicate, heal, and grow. She uses an evidence-based, strengths-focused, integrative approach to help you meet your goals.

My Background

Whether personally or professionally, I show up as my authentic self so that you can too. The therapeutic relationship is so important that I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I earned my master’s in counseling psychology with an emphasis in health psychology at Santa Clara University, focusing on cognitive-behavioral science, mindfulness, grief & loss treatment, and positive psychology. In my undergraduate program at San Jose State University, I studied neuroscience, perception, and cognition. My overarching desire is to use all that I have learned for your benefit to help you live your best life.

TAKE THERAPY HOME WITH YOU

Some therapists will work with you in their office and hope you are able to remember the experience. I will give you clear ways to get the most out of therapy with experiential activities and tools that you can use in your daily life, even long after therapy has ended.

LIFE EXPERIENCE TO SERVE YOU

I have traveled far and wide in search of cultural understanding. Getting to know people from a wide variety of perspectives, ethnicities, and physical abilities has taught me a great deal. It has also revealed what I still have yet to learn.

My professional experience included management & staffing in the real estate banking, retail, and high-tech industries, as well as children’s ministry. I also volunteered for organizations such as ABC Project Cornerstone (teaching anti-bullying principles to elementary school kids), CityTeam (serving food to people without homes), the Global Ischemia Foundation (providing sensory exercises to a patient with a brain injury), Parents Helping Parents (supporting children with disabilities), Project Hired (advocating for deaf and hard-of-hearing employees), and 1040i (working alongside former street workers in a rudimentary bakery).

Areas of Focus

My areas of focus include helping people find their way through life transitions such as: career changes, premarital adjustments, infertility-related issues, perinatal and postpartum concerns, coping with a difficult diagnosis, and parenting (toddlers to teens) using Love & Logic.

I also find it very meaningful to help people of all ages who are struggling with depression, grief & loss, and insomnia, as well as individual adults who want to learn healthier ways of expressing their anger.

With couples, I specialize in: premarital counseling, creating cross-cultural understanding, and helping partners with intimacy & sex issues to reconnect.

As a Christian therapist, I will meet you right where you are, without judgement, incorporating your values and as much or as little spiritual integration as you like.

Fun Facts About Barbara

My husband and I have been married for over 20 years and live in the Bay Area with our two sons. We enjoy traveling together, listening to an eclectic variety of music, and playing the card game, Uno. I also enjoy cooking, dancing, reading historical fiction, and hosting tea for friends in our cozy backyard, where I can often be found delighting in my mostly-unsuccessful gardening habit.

WHY I DO WHAT I DO

I have found ways to thrive through many difficult challenges. My work as a therapist is my way to pay-it-forward.

“God is the one who comforts us in all our troubles so that we are able to comfort others with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” -II Corinthians 1:4
