The Power in Celebrating Independence Day

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

~The Declaration of Independence (1776)

The Declaration of Independence represents an official breaking of ties between the original 13 colonies and the rule of Great Britain in 1776. 

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” gives us three examples of the unalienable rights which the Declaration says have been given to all humans by their creator, and which governments are created to protect.

This means, the Declaration of Independence is giving us the ability to use our freedom for good and for the benefit of one another in brotherhood.  It enables us to be who we are created to be, use our gifts and talents in life to “empower” one another, and become better, together, because we are different.

Today, I’m grateful to celebrate our independence that was fought for, died for, and trained for, to keep us free today. 

May we seek our creator with all our hearts, soul, mind, and strength, to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with every heartbeat on this earth.  Only then can we truly find depth in life, peace in liberty, and a genuine happiness that is grounded in love.
